About this window & upvc seals
LOWENERGIE 20m Black uPVC Replacement Rubber Gasket
The rubber seal in a uPVC window is a consumable. After ten or fifteen years in the sun and the cold, it can harden, compress and shrink away from its groove. When that happens, the window starts to whistle or feel cold at the edge, and the cure is a new seal, not a new window.
This Lowenergie rubber is sold as a universal replacement for both uPVC windows and doors, in a roomy 20m length. The supplier notes that the shape of the original seal may differ slightly from this profile, which they say should not affect performance, but it is wise to compare your old seal with the product photos before ordering.
Measure the groove and look at the cross-section of your existing seal. If the groove is of the common narrow kind, a universal gasket often fits. Pull the old seal out, clean the groove, and press the new rubber in, starting at a corner and working round without stretching it.
