A screwed-on brush seal is one of the most reliable ways to draught-proof a door, but the exposed screws are not everyone’s idea of tidy. This Stormguard version solves that with a hinged cover that clips over the fixings, so the strip looks like a clean white trim along the bottom of the door.

It is 914mm long, which suits the majority of UK doors, and can be cut to size with a hacksaw or a sharp blade if your door is narrower. A row of dense bristles seals gaps up to 25mm, and the slotted fixing holes mean you can adjust the strip up and down after fitting, which is useful when you change a carpet or a threshold.

What you need

A tape measure, a pencil, a small drill with a pilot bit, a screwdriver and a hacksaw or sharp craft knife.

The sequence

Hold the strip to the door with the bristles just touching the floor, mark the slot positions, drill pilot holes, and fix loosely. Adjust the height, tighten the screws and snap the cover shut.
