Foam draught excluders and noise: what to expect
A quieter door gap
A gap under a door lets sound leak as well as air. Closing it with thick foam damps the sound that travels along the floor, such as footsteps and TV chatter.
What it will and will not do
A foam excluder will take the edge off noise and stop the strip of light. It will not stop noise passing through a thin door or the walls around it. For a home office, treat the draught gap first, then look at the door itself.
Placement tips
Press the foam tight against the floor, and check the door closes freely. If the door catches on a thick carpet, trim the foam a little shorter at the hinge side.
